We are having a lovely time at my mother-in-law's house in South Dakota. The kids are marinating in the love, and Tom is relaxing, which is vital to the family's well-being. I've been getting more sleep (10-12 hours per night!)  than I thought I needed, which is probably what I really need.

So far, we've taken the kids to a horse farm owned by my MIL's beau. (They've been dating for almost six years, and aren't getting married any time soon. Calling someone a boyfriend when they are both in their seventies seems awfully twee.) In addition, we've seen Devil's Gulch in Garretson, SD, where Jesse James "jumped the gulch" to get away from the authorities. We took a lovely pontoon boat ride on Split Rock Creek where the captain of the ship made many, many Norwegian jokes. It's a regional specialty.

Tomorrow, if the weather is nice, we're all going to the zoo in Sioux Falls. If the weather is rainy as it was today, we'll all go see "Up" in a nearby town that has a theater. The town we are in is so small that it only has one grocery store and no stoplight.

However, my family is happy and relaxed. I don't need much else this week.

I'll be pulling up stakes Friday when we head out to Minneapolis for a night and I hopefully get to meet [livejournal.com profile] posthaste ! Saturday morning, we'll be having breakfast with Tom's aunt, uncle, assorted cousins, and offspring, then catching a flight home.

sounds like a lovely time. you just let those kids bask while you sleep. but, put on lovescreen. don't want them getting too spoiled.

Heehee!

It's been rather cool and cloudy here. (Days in the 60s and 70s here!) I have been putting on a minimum of SPF15 on the kids.

I'm so rested. I don't know what to do with myself.

Awww. :) Maybe his office will actually leave him alone!

Don't sweat it if you can't! We'll do our best to get out of town at a decent hour, but I expect us to roll in to MSP about 3ish or so and will need to check in to the hotel. We'll check in from the road and let you know.

I'm so freaking excited, I can't wait.

For one night only!

My MIL bought us a hotel room near the MSP airport so we can have time to visit with Tom's aunt who lives in Maplewood on Saturday morning. We'll be driving in Friday morning from South Dakota. We'll be arriving in the area sometime mid-afternoon based on traffic and potty-whims. :) We'll need to check-in to the hotel and let the children run free after being confined to a rental car for five or so hours. (OMG is the drive beautiful yet...repetitive.)

I had first dibs with Posthaste since I've never met her before. I was planning on doing MOA with my kids just to blow their freaking minds either with or after meeting PH.

Ah ok :) That's fair *grin*. Have fun.

If you have more time at some point (on another trip), it might be cool to have some kind of cook out or something. PH and I live in the same town :)
