For the last 2 weeks, Amelia's had this weird cough. She didn't have a cold, runny nose, or anything else - just a cough. It was keeping her up at nights, so we did take her in to the doctor when it hit the 10 day mark. The doctor checked nose, ears, and throat and said it looked like she was developing allergies. Sigh.
(I've had allergies since I was a kid, and I was hoping that my kids wouldn't develop them. Tom developed seasonal allergies a few years ago. One of the reasons I was so hellbent on breastfeeding was to decrease the chances that the kids wouldn't get allergies. When we couldn't resolve latch issues with Amelia, I exclusively pumped for almost a year to ensure she'd get those antibodies.)
So I trooped on over to the pharmacy and picked up the liquid generic Claritin. She's been taking it since Thursday, and we haven't seen an improvement yet. I forgot to ask the doctor how long it would take to see an improvement. From my googling, it seems like some people see improvement that day, others say up to 2 weeks. Parents who have kids with allergies - how long did it take for your kids to improve? I'm wondering when I should call up the doctor and say, "Um, this isn't working?"
