While we were visiting my dad and his wife, she made Paula Deen's "Gooey Cake" for dessert one night.

After you look at that recipe, you'll agree she was trying to kill us off with a coronary.

Hey, I live in Georgia. Chik-Fil-A has a drive through so you don't have to get out of your car to get a biscuit with fried chicken FOR BREAKFAST.

It's damned tasty.

Fuck it, let's just get some Grandy's.

Only with a gallon of sweet tea.

I like my Grandy's fries with the honey that they put out for the biscuits :). It's a good thing that I'm hundreds of miles away.

Paula Deen makes a pumpkin version of the Gooey Butter Cake for Thanksgiving. :)

There are many iterations of that cake. :) I think it's the extra POUND of sugar on top of the box mix that gets me.

Is it good? I don't know if I'd like the gooeyness. Cake isn't really supposed to be gooey. We had some chocolate chip cookies the other day that were supposed to be just amazing, but I thought they tasted uncooked because of the goo level, so I found them a bit unpleasant.

It's dense - like a toffee cookie bar, if that makes any sense. It tasted okay, but the texture was odd to me. Everyone else ate theirs, and Tom finished off what I didn't.

I thought all Paula Deen recipes were supposed to induce coronaries. This is the woman who makes Krispy Kreme bread pudding, after all. *shudder*

I'm reasonably certain that Paula Deen has a recipe for fried butter. I think that everything she makes is a coronary waiting to happen...but SOOOO tasty.

The Lady knows cooking, yes indeed. Becky and I agreed the kitchen at her restaurant must still use honest lard.

Best. Fried. Chicken. Ever.
