Amelia's been having nosebleeds every other day or so for the last few weeks. We've been running a humidifier in her room, upping her fluids, smearing vaseline in her nose, and still it happens. (That's what the nurse line recommended to do.) We are staying on top of keeping her nails trimmed. The nosebleeds don't just happen at home - they also happen at school. - yikes! This morning, she had one at 5:40 that lasted for 30 minutes even with pinching the bridge of her nose and all that. Not a pleasant way for anyone to start the day.

I'll be calling the pediatrician's office this afternoon to see if it is time to escalate to ENT or what.

We didn't have much snow at our house, but we were iced in. For those that follow my Facebook where I tend to jot down most of my Internet-y thoughts, there was supposed to be a Girl Scout surprise pancake breakfast Saturday morning. The troop that was hosting it was determined to carry on even though the 50 troop leaders that were signed up to attend called the leader and said it was not viable, the roads were pretty awful, keep the money, etc.. Finally, at 9 PM Friday, the hosting troop leader sent out a guilt-trippy email saying she was going to reschedule. Thanks, Mom. :P

It's good to have everyone back to their normal schedule today. Now if the ice would just melt off my driveway.

Liam had a winter like that. His coincided with some of his asthma issues, I think becuase the tissue in his nose was always sort of inflamed.

Thank you! I'll keep those in mind if we go to the ENTs. I have Kaiser, so it's always a crapshoot who we get to use.

Poor girl :( Samuel used to have a battle with nosebleeds, they'd just come out of nowhere. He grew out of it, but it was a nightmare to deal with at times.

A little off-topic - I've been meaning to tell you that Justin had picked out the name Amelia for the baby - I thought that was funny, such an uncommon name, yet someone I know, with the same name as me, has a daughter with that name LOL I couldn't believe it :)

If you go with the middle name "Lauren", it'll be a home run. :)

I feel for poor Amelia! I suffered nose bleeds as a child. The best remedy I was taught was to wad up a small bit of tissue and put it between your top lip and upper gum. There's a pressure point there that stops the bleeding.

I used to do that and put a cold pack on the back of my neck.

When I was in about the 6th grade that started happening to me. I would bleed so much that it would fill up my sinuses and come out through my tear ducts.

We went to an ear nose and throat doc who caurterized about a dozen places in each nostril over 2 trips. Best thing ever. They use a chemical that burns over the breaks where capilaries are right on the surface of the nose tissue and seals them up. It stings and it's weird to have a doctor right there up your nose, but it was totally worth it.

Oh, yuckers! Bleeding out of the eyes?

If it gets that bad, we'll go that route. A friend of mine turned me onto Ayr Gel, and I've been doing it the last few nights (some of it on a Q-tip up her nose). It's really helped.
